Legnica SILVER Festival 2025

Visit the Grand Opening of the Legnica Jewellery Festival SILVER on May 9-10 and immerse yourself in the world of art jewelry. What will Legnica surprise with this year?

Legnica exhibitions have been showcasing the full spectrum of creative approaches in the field of art jewellery for years. Each year, more than a dozen shows presenting a huge diversity in terms of materials, techniques, and the issues raised by the artists attract a wide audience of jewellery, art, and design enthusiasts from Europe and even more remote parts of the world.

The upcoming edition of the event will be full of surprises and new features. This is ensured by the theme of the jewelry competition and the Festival – WOW Effect!

This year's slogan is a challenge for both the participants and the organizers themselves. So what can we expect from the exhibition of works qualified for the 33rd International Jewelry Art Competition?

We want the WOW effect, we want artists to show us that art can be an antidote to difficult times, that they can still surprise us, and that their voice is an important one in conversations, prophecies, and speculations about the future of the world – explains Justyna Teodorczyk, director of the Gallery of Art.

Traditionally, the works submitted to the competition but not qualified by the jury will have a chance to be presented at the Holownia exhibition at the Modrzejewska Theater, where lively discussions about the jury's verdict take place every year among the Festival guests.

The well-known series "About the Artists" will be among the festival exhibitions. In 2025, its heroine will be the Greek artist Christina Karababa – a designer and interdisciplinary researcher associated with the University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf, who in her work explores the intersections of design, art, jewelry, science, and technology. Jarosław Kolec, a lecturer at the Institute of Jewellery at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, will also present an individual exhibition. The artist will take us into the world of stones and minerals, which have become the matter of art in his hands.

Although we have invited recognizable and valued artists to cooperate, young artists will occupy a special place in the Festival program in 2025. We especially expect a fresh look, innovative ideas, and the title "effect" (or critical references to it) from them.

The third exhibition in the "About the Artists" series will be devoted to jewellery referring to the issue of human memory and memories by Jiakun Zhang – a graduate of Birmingham City University and winner of the Gallery of Art Award in Legnica during Romanian Jewelry Week.

Justyna Anioł, a master's student at the Institute of Jewellery at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, will make her debut at the SILVER Festival in 2025. She was selected for the Legnica show in the Strzemiński PROJECT Competition. This year, the Department of Jewellery and Gemstones at the University of Applied Sciences in Trier, Campus Idar-Oberstein, Germany, will be featured in the "Silver Schools" series. "ROCKstars – Live in Legnica" will be a show of the most spectacular works by students and graduates of the faculty famous for stone processing.  A group of newly graduated Campus Idar-Oberstein alumni will also provide jewelry surprises and attractions by presenting their diploma project during the Festival.

We will be convinced that jewelry can tell its own stories and narratives by visiting the extensive international exhibition "Jewellery and Freedom", organized by the Tincal lab studio from Porto, Portugal. Several dozen works – despite the common theme – resonate with a polyphony, in which individual statements colored by a diverse cultural and political background are clearly visible.

The Festival program will also include exhibitions from other media. Traditionally, the International Jewelry Art Competition will be accompanied by photography and poster shows. For the second time, a group of students from the Department of Art Mediation at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław will also visit us. For the residents of Legnica and the surrounding area, we are preparing a program of curatorial tours, author meetings, and workshops that will take culture enthusiasts into the world of art jewelry. The exhibitions of the Legnica Jewellery Festival SILVER will be presented in the spaces of the Art Gallery, Ring Gallery, Copper Museum, Satyrykon Gallery, Modrzejewska Theater, Silver Gallery Under the Quail Basket, Open Art Studio, Qubus Hotel, and the Atrium and Kopernik Culture Centers in April-June.

The Grand Opening, together with the awards gala in the jewelry competition, will take place on May 9-10, 2025. The event will be accompanied by exhibition openings, the "Boundaries of Global Art" symposium, meetings, happenings, and a concert.
