Patryk Caban's exhibition is presented as part of the Debuts exhibition series and constitutes a prize awarded by the Art Gallery in Legnica in Władysław Strzemiński Competition Project, organised by the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź and addressed to students. The aim of the Debuts series is to enable young artists to make their mark on the art scene and to gain their first experience of presenting their own work. Patryk Caban's exhibition is a kind of summary of the current stage of the artist's education (Caban will take his MA exam this year).
Patryk Caban is inspired by history in its broadest sense, both formally (transformation of traditional techniques) and narratively. The history of European culture becomes a reservoir of inspiration. In the Historiography series, the artist analyses the symbolic aspects of a place, drawing on Łódź's past. The Monastery collection of men's jewellery reactivates the stories of barbers from the Middle Ages. The artist also evokes the phenomenon of the Sicilian Mafia, the structure of which is illustrated in a series of signets. A reference to the symbolic value of time, on the other hand, can be found in the work referring to the Doomsday Clock and in an object evoking the eternal rhythm of sunrises and sunsets.
EXHIBTION FOLDER TO DOWNLOAD:
Bracelets inspired by the forms of neon and roof billboards, light-curing resin, yellow and white brass, copper, oxidized, 80 x 80 mm (1 pcs.), 2022
The collection attempts to interpret neon signs, using the technique of traditional, hand engraving, in combination with 3D forms. For greater contrast, the engraved words are the names of old craft cooperatives. Bracelets have an artistic message, worn on the body, they are supposed to evoke the image of the city from the perspective of roofs, neon and billboards.
Collection of signet rings for massage
yellow brass, natural pearls, artificial pearls, 25 mm (1 psc.), 2019
Signet rings make massage possible through the pearls attached to them. Raw forms of not fully processed brass, deliberately contrast with the smooth function that the signet rings are supposed to perform.
