Silver weekend in Legnica

The culmination of the Legnica Jewellery Festival SILVER, which took place on 5 and 6 May, is behind us. The Gallery of Art in Legnica turned into an international arena for the presentation of contemporary jewellery design, attracting several hundred artists from all over Poland, as well as many countries around the world, including Germany, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Estonia, Norway, Japan, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Portugal and Greece. The Festival audience included artists and lovers of artistic jewellery who have been visiting Legnica for years, as well as artists who were working with the Gallery for the first time.

The 'silver' weekend featured openings of exhibitions - in the presence of artists, we opened displays in several locations in the heart of the town. The opening of the Festival was traditionally held in the hall of the Modrzejewska Theatre, and Friday evening was crowned by a jazz concert by the Piotr Rachoń Quartet at Art Cafe Modjeska.

Saturday began with a popular science session, Boundaries of Global Art, to close with an award gala filled with excitement and tears of emotion for the 31st  International Jewellery Competition Quality. The winner of  the Grand Prix of the Competition was Korean artist Youjin Um. The full list of award winners is available here.

The culmination also featured accompanying events related to artistic jewellery: a workshop by Arek Pasożyt and a happening by students of the Department of Jewellery at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, who took on the role of living jewellery displays.

In Legnica, we will present individual shows from the series "About the Artists", which introduce the work of Jolanta Gazda and Kirsten Plank (Germany), as well as the debut of Patryk Caban, a representative of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. In the Copper Museum, we will see realisations by students and lecturers from the Metal and Jewellery Studio at the Art and Craft Department, Oslo National Academy of the Arts (Norway) and from the Jewellery and Blacksmithing Studio at the Faculty of Design, Estonian Academy of Arts (Estonia). The Festival also includes group exhibitions: Extranalities, the Contemporary Jewellery Symposium Tokyo, and works from the International Jewellery Collection from Gallery of Art in Legnica. Traditionally, one can also see the Holownia and the photography and poster exhibitions accompanying the International Jewellery Competition.

Thank you for being with us and welcome back next year!
