SERENDIPITY
The exhibition presents works selected for the 22nd International Competition for Jewellery Design with Amber organized by the International Amber, Jewellery and Gemstone Fair Amberif. The aim of the competition is promotion of creative thinking and innovative solutions in jewellery-with-amber design. This year’s topic was: Serendipity.
Jury composed of:
- Stephen Bottomley – Scotland (chairman),
- Sophie Hanagarth – France,
- Petra Hölscher – Germany,
- Eija Mustonen – Finland,
- Marcin Tymiński – Poland,
assessed 127 works submitted by 100 authors from 20 countries: Poland, Iran, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Great Britain, Slovenia, Argentina, Lithuania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium, Brazil/Germany, Ukraine, Estonia, Czech Republic, Israel, The Netherlands, China, Serbia and awarded the following prizes:
GRAND PRIX
sponsored by Paweł Adamowicz, President of the City of Gdańsk – PLN 10 000:
Silvi Bellia, Germany
The jury found the image submitted mysterious and enigmatic. It raised a great discussion between the Jury that resulted in their being agreement that it would hopefully inspire future generations to
work with this beautiful material and be brave to do many different things. The composition of materials was handled in a sophisticated manner with great skill.
AMBER PRIZE
sponsored by International Association of Amber Jewellers, 1 kilo of amber:
Kairi Sirendi, Estonia
An interesting combination of two organic materials that are held together by a magnetic and irresistible force. Truly a “sweet serendipity” between nature and chemistry.
SILVER PRIZE
sponsored by KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., 1 kilo of silver:
Miron Kutarba, Polska
This prize provided an alternative perspective for the competition. A well observed, witty and almost kitsch design inspired by a study of everyday popcorn with amber as the kernel of the idea.
The Jury resolved to award 4 distinctions for works referring to associations with the word ‘serendipity’:
-Carme Roher Castellas, Spain
-Andrea Wagner, The Netherlands
-Andrzej Boss, Poland
- Hanna Kowalska, Poland
