MICHALINA OWCZAREK

DE-RECONSTRUCTION OF THE FORM

An exhibition of interactive jewellery in which the artist gives the recipient the opportunity to build the context of the work and interpretation. Owczarek created four collections (Reversible, Irreversible, Illusion and Recipient as Co-creator ) based on Luigi Pareyson’s theory of formativity and the issue of form. They consist of a total of 37 items and 5 additions (crucible holder and box, rope with clasp and two magnets (set 8)), of which about 55 objects can be made. All works discuss the subject of changes that take place in a person under the influence of others. The artist wanted to present jewellery that is not only an aesthetic object of use, but above all a work that carries an emotional message.

The main theme of the presented works is the human face subject to change. It directs the recipient to read the message contained in the collection, while allowing for a certain freedom. Depending on their predisposition, but also on his creativity or internal barriers, the recipient will read the subject as a change of man or change the object itself.

The use of non-emotional faces of non-existent people was a deliberate intervention. In the artist’s opinion, the face is one of the few signs recognizable by everyone, regardless of its cultural or social conditions. At the same time, it should be noted that the faces themselves are not portraits. It is important to distinguish between a portrait and a representation of a person in order to understand the difference between messages that they carry with them. In the case of this collection, the presented faces are to be the stimulus, not the information about a specific person. Faces gain identity only when interacting with the recipient. They gain meaning only when the recipient fully engages his emotions and reason. Under the influence of manipulation, the faces blur their original appearance, thus showing the transition from forms uniquely associated with the face to the forms in which it is modified. Performances are transformed into less-readable ones, or they hide in geometric shapes, which makes the image "blurred". The purpose of this surgery is to force the recipient to interact. By means of manipulation and observation of evolution, the subject has the opportunity to become acquainted with the structure of the subject and also to choose between his characters.
