Amberif Design Award TRANSITION 2016

The Exhibition presents works selected for the 20th International Competition for Jewellery Design with Amber organized by the International Amber, Jewellery and Gemstone Fair Amberif. The aim of the competition is promotion of creative thinking and innovative solutions in jewellery-with-amber design. This year’s topic was: Transition.

Jury composed of:

-Heidemarie Herb – Italy / Germany,
-Danuta Czapnik – Poland,
-Adriana Lisowska – Poland,
-Nicolas Estrada – Columbia / Spain (Chairman)

assessed 92 works submitted by 75 authors from 19 countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Spain, India, Israel, South Korea, Mexico, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Ukraine, Great Britain and Italy and awarded the following prizes:

Grand Prix
sponsored by Paweł Adamowicz, President of the City of Gdańsk – PLN 10 000

Jolanta Kupniewska, Warsaw, Poland

Reversal of materials where gold is encased in amber. Juxtaposition of a harsh amber block and a coarsely hewed, gold-plated lump of silver. A transition from transparency into opaqueness, combined with an interesting architectural structure.

Amber Prize
sponsored by International Association of Amber Jewellers, 1 kilo of amber

Jelizaveta Suska, Mölndal, Sweden / Latvia

The Jury liked the transition of patina into amber and how copper holds amber. The texture of weathered copper transforms into the texture of weathered amber.

Silver Prize
sponsored by KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., 1 kilo of silver

Kinga Sulej, Dłutów, Polska

Work exceptionally organic, like lichen. Blue turns into yellow and green amber; soft texture transforms into sharp, broken, aggressive angles.

The Jury resolved to award 3 distinctions for works referring to associations with the word ‘transition’:

Kim Ji Young, Tanhyeon, South Korea
Transition as a perfect creative process.

Emilia Kohut-Jeż, Gdynia, Poland
Colours, form, material and amber harmoniously united. Artificial resin transforms into natural amber.

Agnieszka Grupa, Karolina Matea, Gdańsk, Poland
A powerful expression of the contest theme realised with great sensitivity. Work seemingly executed by nature, not by the human hand.

For the catalogue of the AMBERIF Fair 2016 and for the exhibition the Jury qualified 15 works of following authors:
