Jury

 

On the 9th-10th April jury session of the 24th Legnica International Jewellery Competition BOUNDARIES took place. 

Jury constist of: Sławomir Fijałkowski (Poland), Suska Mackert (Germany), Ruudt Peters (The Netherlands), Zuzanna Skalska (Poland/The Netherlands), Gisbert Stach (Germany), Christoph Zellweger (Switzerland) judget 605 works submitted by 337 artists from 42 countries and qualified to the exhibition 45 artists and chose awarded. The list of artists qualified for the exhibition is available here (click). 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jurors of 24. International Jewellery Competition BOUNDARIES are: 

Sławomir Fijałkowski - Poland

B. in 1970. Professor of fine arts, lives and works in Gdynia, Poland. Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Łódź (Poland) - Jewellery Design, postgraduate studies at the  Hochschule für künstlerische und industrielle Gestaltung in Linz (Austria) - Metall. Scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture and Art, the Batory Foundation, the Vienna Foundation Kultur-Kontakt and the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research. He has worked in many private and public academies, currently he leads the Experimental Design Studio at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. He deals with product and jewellery design in collaboration with reputable manufacturers and author`s design. Participant in more than 50 exhibitions of jewellery and design,  jury member and consultant of the Legnica International Jewellery Competition, curator of the The International Competition for Design of Jewellery with Amber - Amberif Design Award, organizer of many exhibitions, author of texts, analysis, theoretical and scientific descriptions, educational programs in the field of contemporary design.  At present - dean of the Architecture and Design Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk.

 

Suska Mackert - Germany

B. in 1969. in Munich, Germany. Graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (1994-1998) and the Sandberg Institute (1998-2000) in Amsterdam, Netherlands. In the years 2007-10 - Dean of the Faculty of Jewellery at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, now - Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Jewellery at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg. Participated in several dozen exhibitions. Her works are in many private and public collections, including the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim, Germany; Museum of Art Craft, Itami, Japan. She sees jewellery in all its forms as a phenomenon: it is not only decorative but also a means for communication and identification. On the basis of this, Mackert examines the role and the boundaries of this phenomenon in our lives: what meaning does jewellery have for people and/or the body?

 

Zuzanna Skalska - Poland/The Netherlands   

Analyst of trends for design, innovation and business. B.  in Warsaw, lives in the Netherlands. Graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven and the Royal Academy of Art and Design in Den Bosch (diploma in 1998)..She started her career as a Sensorial Trend Analyst at the department of Philips Design strategy. In 2001 - 2014 worked for the biggest Dutch design studio VanBerlo in Eindhoven, where she was responsible for the constant monitoring of trends in various industries. Since 2007 she operates under its own brand 360 Inspiration. Lecturer at the University TU / e in Eindhoven at the Faculty of Industrial Design. Advisor for innovation and design for the Polish and Dutch government. Originator and co-founder of the higher schools of design - School of Form in Poznań. The lecturer at international conferences, lectures and workshops on trends and business schools. The author of a series of books about trends - 360˚Trend Reports, awarded with the Red Dot Design Awards 2009. She leads 360inspiration.nl blog.

 

Gisbert Stach - Germany

B. in 1963 in Freiburg/Breisgau, Germany. Education: studies in Sculpture and Jewellery with Prof. P. Skubic, Cologne University of Applied Science, 1988-90; studies at the Jewellery Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, class of Prof. O. Künzli, Germany, 1991-96. Christoph Zellweger - Switzerland

B. in 1962. Professor of Art & Design at Sheffield Hallam University. Currently lives and works in Zürich, Switzerland. As a trained goldsmith and model-maker he designed and produced fine jewellery for the luxury trade in Germany and Switzerland. He graduated from the Royal College of Art London in 1993, turning towards an interdisciplinary experimental practice. Besides running his Zurich-based studio and exhibiting internationally, Christoph engages in artistic research as Professor of Art & Design at Sheffield Hallam University since 2003. He set up and ran one of the first MA’s in Jewellery & Metalwork in the UK at Sheffield Hallam University, taught on the MA at Konstfack Ädellab in Stockholm, at the Academy of Fine Art Nuremberg, at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Detroit and more recently ran the MA in Jewellery Design at the Royal Academy of Art in Antwerp. Since 2008 he also coaches students on the MA in Product Design at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and mentors Fine Artists from India for the Futur Foundation in Switzerland. His work won various prizes and can be found in museums and collections in Europe and in North America.

 

Ruudt Peters - The Netherlands

B. in 1950 in Naaldwijk, The Netherlands. Lives and works in Amsterdam and Ravensteijn (NL). Studied Jewellery Design at Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam (1970-74). Head of Jewellery Department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam (1990-2000), founder of Opere International Jewellery School, Ravenstein, external critic at  Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Nürnberg (from 2014 till today), at Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam (2011-13) and in RISD Rode Island School of Design, Providence, USA (2007), professor in Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence, Italy (2010-15), visiting professor at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA (2009) and at PHL University College Hasselt, Belgium (2009), professor at Ädellab, Konstfack University of Arts and Crafts, Stockholm, Sweden (2004-09), visiting professor at South Carelia Polytechnic, Lappeenranta, Finland. Author of several individual exhibitions around the world and participant of group exhibitions. Laureate of many awards, i.a.: Françoise van den Bosch Prize 2000 (for oeuvere), Amsterdam (2000); Herbert Hofmann Prize 2004 (for Iosis), Munich, Germany (2004), Marzee Galerie, Nijmegen, The Netherlands (2005), nominated for Harrie Tillie Award (for Corpus), Stedelijk Museum, Roermond, The Netherlands (2013). Works in many collections all over the world, i.a.: Cleveland County Museum, Middlesborough (UK); Cooper-Hewitt Museum, New York, (USA); Apeldoorns Museum; Hiko Mizuno Art School Collection, Tokio (JP); Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Montreal (CA); Museum Boymans van Beuningen, Rotterdam (NL); Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Vienna (AT); Schmuckmuseum, Pforzheim (DE); Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (NL).
